Rest Day: Ottawa...Got Milk?

I awoke well rested after sleeping in a bed...oh this tour has definitely made me appreciate the little comforts of life :)

A group of us ate an all you could eat breakfast at the cafeteria with chocolate milk on tap. During the tour numerous riders would purchase chocolate milk eat day, drinking it by the litre for an energy boost and its yumminess. The fact that chocolate milk was on tap was pretty much a dream come true for some riders, it was fantastic :)

After breakfast I sat outside waiting for my parents to arrive as they would be visiting me :) We decided to check out the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum which was not far from Carleton University. I learned a few fun facts about dairy cattle:

  • There are six species of dairy cattle in Ontario
  • Jersey cows produce the fattiest milk
  • Holstein cows produce the most milk. Some female cows produce as much as 45litres of milk a day! And they make up 93% of Ontario’s dairy cattle herd

In addition to seeing farm animals, which included all dairy cattle species, calfs, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, and a massive bull, the museum had several exhibits, some of which were a tractor exhibit, honey bee exhibit, renewable energy exhibit, and a monarch butterfly exhibit. It was an interesting museum and it was fun to be out with my parents. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable day :)
