The trip from Youngstown to
Kindersley was a long ride. The most exciting moment of the day was seeing the
sign that said “Welcome to Saskatchewan.” I made it to Saskatchewan! Holy
toelitoes! At that moment I truly believed I could cycle across the country.
Every now and then I would be cycling and wondering, what the hell am I doing!?
I am on a bicycle, cycling across Canada, the second largest country in the
world! I did not even consider cycling the country until a year ago; it just
popped into my head as something to do and at times I felt it was absolutely
ridiculous. However, I would counter these thoughts by stating, I am doing it,
I am cycling across Canada, and although it has been physically, mentally, and
emotionally challenging thus far, it has also been invigorating and amazing.
Canada’s landscape is breathtaking (even the prairies at times ;) ) and I am there experiencing it first-hand on
a bicycle.
There were a few rolling hills as I
cycled in Saskatchewan. What’s funny is I would become a bit frustrated with
the hills because that meant I would have to work a bit harder. It was amazing
how fast my attitude towards hills changed as I became accustomed to flat-terrain.
The last 15km of the ride were tough
because there were advertisements along the road and I could see the town in
the distance but it felt like it was just beyond my grasp. Once I laid eyes on Kindersley
all I wanted was to be in camp right at that moment, but I still had 15km to
go. What made it even worse was the campsite was on the other side of town, but
I finally got there. Another day accomplished and two provinces down, eight
more to go :)
