If anyone asked whether I preferred
rain or wind, my answer would be rain because I believe a steady rain on a
summer day with no wind is significantly less challenging than wind gusting in
your face as you ride. Yes, rain makes you wet, but wind in the face can be
quite challenging and tiresome. However, wind is a blessing if it is behind
your back as you cycle, pushing you along, and that is exactly what happened as
I cycled to Outlook.
The wind turned an uneventful day
into an incredibly fun one. We had a tailwind for the entire day and it was absolutely
amazing. At one point I was cycling 40km/hr! It was incredible how fast I could
go with the wind in my back. I was just zooming along with a huge smile on my
face. At one point I was asking myself, should I be having this much fun
because I felt that I was literally flying, my pace was nice and constant, I
was motoring. When I arrived at camp, everyone had a huge smile on their face
because each rider had so much fun cycling with the wind in their back.
Our camp was fantastic as well. We
stayed at Outlook and District Regional Park which is located next to the Saskatchewan
River. As well, the SkyTrail Bridge, which is the longest pedestrian bridge in
Canada, was right next door. After dinner I walked on the bridge with Danny and
Greig. The walk up to the bridge was not enjoyable because there were packs of mosquitoes
attacking us. We sped walk to get to the bridge. When we were on the bridge,
which is 150ft above water, we were too high up for the mosquitoes which was a
massive relief. The scenery from the bridge was spectacular. It was a calm evening
as the wind has died down and the sun was setting, it was beautiful. I was very
happy I walked on the bridge. It had made a fantastic day even better :D
