Taylor’s Cove to Quetico, 154km

Today we simply followed Route 11 all the way to camp. It wasn’t a very eventful day and it was a bit overcast and chilly. I was on galley duty that evening so I had to try and get to camp at a decent hour, but our crew was notorious for being late. From what I recall, I do not believe we served dinner that late, so that was good. Granted we did have pasta so it wasn’t that difficult to cook, but the riders were fed and that is what’s important :)

During the ride Louise and I stopped by a stream and had a little break. We sat in what appeared to be a boat launch area just off the road. It was nice to just sit back and relax for a moment. We also stopped at the Atikokan Tourist Office to refuel on water. We did not cycle the 3km to the town of Atikokan because we didn’t really feel like it and we had to get to camp for galley duty anyway.

We stayed at Quetico Provincial Park which was a nice campground. It was a bit of a hike to get there, with unpaved road containing some potholes but we got there :) There was a lake for swimming; however, I did not investigate it because of galley duty and I was tired and just wanted to get to bed. But if I ever find myself in Northern Ontario again I think I will stay at Quetico and journey throughout the park.

That night it was to dip down to 4 degrees. When I finally made it to my tent I made sure I was wearing my toque and wool socks to keep me warm. Tomorrow we would be heading to Thunder Bay where we would have our rest day and this time we would be sleeping in beds as we were staying at Lakehead University :)
