Pancake Bay to Sault Ste. Marie, 87km: Up Mile High Hill and to the Sue We Go!

Today was a super short day, only 87km! :) And tomorrow was a rest day, double woo hoo! Everyone was pretty relaxed that morning, taking it easy packing up and leaving. Louise and I left camp at 8:30am with Clarke and Becky. We had a nice leisurely pace and were chatting amongst ourselves. At around the 30km mark I saw Gee and Larry who had stopped to look at a river, called Chippewa River. Conveniently, there were also outhouses present and so I left Clarke, Becky, and Louise. The three of them seemed to just want to continue cycling but I figured it was a short day and I wanted to take advantage of that by stopping at areas that interested me. So I joined Gee and Larry to look at the river and I rode with them for the remainder of the day which was fun.

Today we climbed up Mile High Hill which was the last big hill in the Lake Superior section of the route. Before we reached Mile High Hill, Gee, Larry and I stopped at a general store to prepare ourselves to battle the hill. The hill was a challenge, but it wasn’t any more difficult than the hills we have experienced and so we climbed it with no problems :) Once we made it to the top it was downhill all the way to Sault Ste. Marie.

We reached the Sue quite early and so we did a few errands, including making a stop at Bulk Barn for some goodies :) After that we leisurely made our way to camp which was located outside of the city. It was nice to get to camp early and relax. Since we had made it halfway I put a new chain on Paula that evening (with the help of Dan and Yukon Greig) to avoid damaging my cassette. Then I cleaned her all up and soon enough it was bed time. Since I had already cleaned Paula the rest day would truly be a day of relaxation because my only chore was laundry. I was looking forward to a day of lounging :)
