Sault Ste. Marie to Spragge, 172km: Steady she goes

Today was the longest Bud Miles day of the entire trip, a big whooping 172km. Personally, I have found anything over 130km is too long to be on the saddle because I need to start early, I reach camp late in the afternoon, and I do not get to make many stops. However, this particular day turned out to be alright. It was right after a rest day and so I started the day with renewed energy, the sun was shining, the humidity wasn’t that high, and the wind was minimal which equated to great cycling conditions :)

The first part of the route took us on Route 638. It was a hardtop road and thus it was a bit bumpy and I could feel the vibrations from the road in my hands, but it wasn’t a busy road and there was some nice scenery. It was also hilly which provided some great challenges :)

Louise and I stopped at Thessalon for lunch. Before we reached Thessalon we noticed a massive Muskoka chair and so we had to stop and take a picture of us sitting on the chair, we looked so small :) We ate lunch by a river and just relaxed. Although it was a long day everyone seemed relaxed and it turned out to be quite the enjoyable ride.

When we reached Algoma Mills we met up with a few other riders at Tim Hortons. After the break we moseyed our way to Serpent River Campground. There I found out train tracks went right through the campground and trains still use these tracks. And so in the middle of the night I awoke to the earth shaking as a train steadily made its way right past our campsite :)
